SÃO PAULO–Brazil’s industrial production declined in July as output of motor vehicles fell and extractive industries such as mining and oil produced less.
Production fell a seasonally adjusted 0.6% in July and retreated 1.1% from a year earlier, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, said Tuesday. In June, production was revised down to unchanged from the previous month and grew a revised 0.2% from a year earlier.
Motor vehicle output declined 6.5% in the month. A government program intended to spur auto sales hasn’t yet had an impact on vehicle production because carmakers started with a high level of inventories, said IBGE research analyst André Macedo.
Production by extractive industries fell 1.4% after two consecutive months of increases, the IBGE said.
