LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincolnites saw cool rides and helped raise funds for single parents during the Mr. Rod Memorial Cruise on Monday.
The cruise is hosted by Midwest Rollers Car Club and Rebels Auto Club, and it helps raise funds for the local nonprofit Chariots 4 Hope.
The nonprofit’s goal is to make sure single parents have a vehicle and the support they need to maintain it.
“This is so impactful for families in need, some of these people are taking buses, they are not able to go to a doctor’s appointment or their job,” said Phoebe Hampton, the director of development for Chariots 4 Hope. “Some people need to be reunited with their children, so this car, it changes their lives.”
Chariots 4 Hope has worked to place over 100 individuals in cars, and about 40 people are currently waiting for a vehicle.
The event began with lunch at Southwest High School before heading to Waverly High School for a mini car show.
“This is a positive thing we can do and we want to help out little kids and help them understand that there’s more things than just a car you can do things with,” said Todd Francisco with the Midwest Rollers Car Club.
Last year, hundreds gathered to help raise money for a couple that was injured on Memorial Day weekend, following a horrific crash on O Street.
