SUN Mobility to power Swiggy’s last-mile delivery of 15,000 e-bikes

India-based food delivery platform Swiggy has partnered with SUN Mobility, an energy infrastructure and services provider for electric vehicles (EVs), to transform its last-mile delivery operations.

According to a blog post by Swiggy, SUN Mobility will be responsible for powering Swiggy’s delivery fleet, comprising more than 15,000 e-bikes, over the next 12 months.

SUN Mobility will give Swiggy’s e-bike fleet access to its battery-swapping technology and its wide network of battery-swapping stations.

Swiggy estimates that its delivery executives travel an average of 80km to 100km daily to deliver orders. This new infrastructure will give them quick access to battery-swapping stations.

It will also help them to save up to 40% of vehicle running costs and boost their overall earnings.

Swiggy operations head Mihir Shah said: “As part of our early and long-term commitment to greener transportation, Swiggy is always looking for ways to increase adoption of electric vehicles in our delivery fleet.

“Working with SUN Mobility allows us to solve concerns about access to battery-swapping stations.

“Our delivery partners can keep going without putting in extra miles or delays due to battery-swapping; all while giving them savings on fuel and vehicle maintenance and contributing to a greener environment.”

Swiggy said that e-bikes as the new delivery vehicles, leased or owned by the associated delivery executives, will allow it to reinforce its commitment to provide “quick, dependable and environmentally friendly deliveries”.

The latest effort supports the delivery company’s goals to promote sustainable transportation across the nation.

Swiggy also said that the move aligns with its commitment to cover eight Lakh kilometres per day utilising EVs By 2025.

SUN Mobility CEO Anant Badjatya said: “Through our partnership with Swiggy, we will work towards our shared vision of reducing our carbon footprint, promoting sustainable mobility and contributing to a greener environment.”
