Street takeovers in CT can be reported to FBI, officials say

Residents who see a street takeover or have knowledge about one can report the information to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Street takeovers usually involve cars, ATVs and bikes, many of the illegal to drive on the street, being driven in large groups along public roads in reckless fashion, according to officials.

The FBI has set up a page on its website dedicated to collecting tips about street takeovers that have occurred in Hartford, Bridgeport and New Haven counties. The tips can be submitted anonymously.

According to state police, the first thing residents should do if they come across a street takeover is to turn around and find an alternate route for their destination. They also should call 911, because the groups can be dangerous, state police said.

In addition, state police are reminding adults that many of the spectators of takeovers are teenagers. Parents should speak with their children about the dangers of the activities, state police said.
